Important update about your child’s future dental care
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have rejected our offer to continue to provide NHS dental services to
children.
We are very disappointed to have received the following communication: “I am writing to inform you of the decision of
the Dental Contract Management and the Primary Care Panel meetings prior to ratification by Performance and
Financial Implications Group. Both groups agreed that this contract should not be converted to a restricted access
contract and therefore the proposal has been rejected”. We wish to ensure your child remains registered with us so
we can continue their dental health care. Many of you have already signed your children up for memberships and the
first payments will be processed on or around 8th July. If you have not processed your child’s membership, there is
still time to do so. You may be aware that we are over subscribed for adults to become members at the Practice
however we have planned for the possibility of BCUHB rejecting our proposal and we can still accommodate those
children who have used our services in the past.
Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr wedi gwrthod ein cais i barhau i ddarparu gwasanaeth deintyddol i blant ar
y GIC.
Rydym wedi ein tristhau yn fawr o gael derbyn hysbysiad gan Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr yn gwrthod ein
cynnig i barhau i ddarparu gwasanaeth deintyddol i blant ar y GIC. Serch hynny, hoffwn eich sicrhau fod hi dal yn
bosib i’ch plentyn dderbyn gwasanaeth deintyddol yn y practis. Mae llawer ohonoch wedi ymaelodi eich plentyn yn
barod, a bydd y taliad cyntaf yn cael ei brosesu oddeutu’r 8ed o Orffennaf 2023. Pe baech yn dymuno cofrestru eich
plentyn, mae dal amser i wneud hyn.
Efallai eich bod yn ymwybodol fod y rhestr i oedolion ymaelodi yn llawn, ond rydym wedi clustnodi lle i blant sydd wedi
derbyn gofal gennym yn y gorffenol, pe bai’r Bwrdd Iechyd yn gwrthod ein cais.
Os ydy eich plentyn yn derbyn triniaeth Orthodonteg ar y GIC ar hyn o bryd, mae’n bosib i hyn barhau, lle bynnag
mae’n cael ei ddarparu. Serch hynny, mae’n ofynnol i’ch plentyn fod wedi cofrestru gyda deintydd boed hynny yn
breifat neu ar y GIC trwy gydol cyfnod y driniaeth Orthodonteg.
What’s changing?
Like many NHS practices across the UK, we are having to make difficult decisions to ensure our practice survives
and is here to provide dental care in the long term. As such, we have decided to move away from a full NHS service
and as BCUHB have declined our offer we will not be able to see child patients under the NHS from 30th June 2023.
We are extremely disappointed with the decision from the Health Board and have been provided with the explanation
that "The Health Board has not awarded any restricted access contracts, any contracts with restrictions were legacy
contracts. The management of restricted access contracts were discussed by the Health Board in October 2016 and
it was agreed to not allow open access contracts to be converted to restricted access".
Becoming a member is quick and easy. All you need to do is register your child online, and we will take care of the
rest. No money will be collected from your account before your first payment on 8th July 2023. If you would like a
place for your child at the Practice, you will need to sign them up for a membership and they will be seen on a private
basis. We will be writing to all our under 18 year old patients individually to inform you how to sign your child up as a
member. The Practice will provide examinations for children free of charge until their sixth birthday. Treatment will be
provided at a further reduction from adult membership rates. We aim to run at least one "Children's Day" in each
school holiday so that we can ensure as many of our child patients as possible can have their routine check-ups
without missing school.
What about my child’s NHS appointment?
If your child has an NHS examination which is already booked before 23rd June 2023, we will still see them for this
and provide any required treatment, under the NHS, as planned. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to treat NHS patients
after the 30th June.
What if my child is receiving NHS Orthodontic treatment at present or in the future?
If your child is currently receiving NHS Orthodontic treatment, irrespective of where this treatment is provided, then
this will continue and be completed. We would like to advise that it is a requirement for any child receiving
Orthodontic treatment to be registered with a general dental practice. This can be as a private or NHS patient.
What if I don’t want my child to join?
BCUHB have provided the following advice: "If you wish to continue to access NHS dental services after 1st July 2023
then please visit https://111.wales.nhs.uk/LocalServices/Default.aspx?s=Dentist or
https://bcuhb.nhs.wales/services/where-do-i-go1/dental/ to find a list of practices and their contact details.
NHS 111 and the Health Board do not hold information on whether a general dental practice is accepting new NHS
patients, patients will need to contact the dental practice directly. Patients finding themselves in urgent need of a
dentist and who have been unable to locate a practice that can accommodate them should contact NHS 111 where
they will be triaged, and if appropriate, directed into an urgent access session (EDS)"
Once again, thank you for your support. We look forward to continuing to look after you and your children’s dental
health
